These are court papers relating to cases of counterfeiting, burglary, defamation, murder and other criminal cases; also papers on divorce cases; and papers relating to the establishment and regulation of Newgate Prison. They include selected documents from the files of the Superior Court and the Court of Assistants, in addition to the criminal cases that came to the General Assembly. Depositions, pleadings, records of lower court decisions, etc. are some of the types of papers found here. The arrangement is roughly chronological. See also Court papers (Conn. Archives v.15) and Private controversies (Conn. Archives v.114-119, boxes 51-66) for other court papers.
